Can You Catch A Catfish This Big ??

Only skilled fisherfolk have luck catching the great Buffalo Bayou Catfish. In the past year 687 Buffalo Catfish this big & bigger were caught between Galveston Bay & the Shepherd bridge 3 miles west of the downtown Houston. Some smaller catfish have been caught as far west as the Voss crossing. Fishing is best on dark nights between 1 & 4 AM so many fishermen wear night vision goggles & dark clothing. Most of these big catfish are filleted and shipped fresh to Catfish Restaurants around Savannah, GA.

Here's the last shot of the catfish being pulled in on a hand line by our crewmember. The big catfish pulled our boat down Buffalo Bayou for 20 minutes before we landed this 48 lb. monster when he tired. Every bit the fighting fish to the end & put us in the ship channel.

At a distance of approximately 50 feet from the boat, the instinct of this sportfish is to try & score a goal, but ours chokes in this effort & .. on the bait too . This whopper can now be brought to a fishy end on our supper table. Posted by Hello

The big fish has the now inflated soccer ball & is running with it. Notice the strong fishing line attached to the bait ball. The other end is secured to a forward cleat on our little Boston Whaler. These catfish have been known to pull a dinghy for several hundred yards upstream before tiring. Posted by Hello

The big catfish leaps for the soccer ball & bites down hard. Count your fingers! There's a small canister of compressed air inside the bait ball which expands rapidly when this sportfish strikes.Posted by Hello

The big Buffalo Cat is lured by the deflated soccer ball held just a few inches out of the water. Daubing the bait in the water every so often increases fish awareness.
